The third-ranked UCLA women's golf team owned a 16-shot lead after the first day of competition in the Kent Youel Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii at the Kapolei Golf Course on Oahu.
The Bruins posted rounds of 283 (-5) and 285 (-3) for a 36-hole total of eight-under par 568. Second place Arizona State was second at 584 (+8) and Oregon was third at 592 (+16), followed by Oklahoma at 593 (+17) and UC Irvine at 597 (+21).
Individually the Bruins owned the leaderboard. Senior Charlotte Mayorkas led the field at five-under par 139 after firing rounds of 69-70. Mayorkas led teammate Amie Cochran by one shot. Cochran posted rounds of 70-70 for a total of four-under par 140. Junior Susie Mathews was tied for third at three-under par 141 after posting rounds of 71-70. Sophomore Hannah Jun was tied for 13th at 148 (73-75, +4) and senior Melissa Martin was tied for 36th at 153 (77-76, +9). Redshirt freshman Brianna Loyear and true freshman Vanessa Brockett were tied for 13th and 32nd, respectively. Loyear posted rounds of 73-75--148 (+4) and Brockett carded scores of 74-78--152 (+8).
The final round of competition continues on Wednesday.
