GAINESVILLE, FL - The Bruin women's volleyball team played another marathon match at the State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic on Saturday night, but this time they were unable to come out on top. No. 13 Colorado State took home the tournament championship trophy with a 15-8, 8-15, 15-12, 11-15, 17-15 victory over the Bruins. This match will air on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Sunday.

Despite coming out with a 3-0 lead in the opening game of the match, the Bruins were unable to capitalize. Following a tie at 5-5, UCLA faltered, recording five consecutive hitting errors and giving the Rams an 8-5 lead. CSU was then able to put together a 15-8 opening game win.

The Bruins looked better in the second game of the match, racking up a 10-4 lead and never allowing the Rams within six points from that point on. Five team blocks in the game, with a solo and assist apiece to Elisabeth Bachman, Ashley Bowles and Ella Harley, aided the Bruin attack.

The teams came out of the locker room for game three, and embarked upon a marathon 38-minute game. The tone was set early, when the Bruins came out to a 6-3 lead before the two teams traded seven sideouts. UCLA took the lead to 8-4 before CSU began to close, eventually tying the game at 8-8. The teams traded 27 sideouts between that tie and a tie at 12-12, from which point the Rams closed out the 15-12 game victory.

With their backs to the wall, the Bruins responded in game four, posting a 15-11 win to send the match to five games, despite being out-hit (.314 to .283), out-dug (16-14) and out-blocked (4-3). The Bruins did record 20 kills to the Rams 16, while sending the match to a deciding fifth game.

Neither team had more than a three-point lead at any point during the rally-scored fifth game. The Bruins were the first team to gain that advantage, as they led 8-6 as the teams switched sides and extended that cushion to a 10-7 margin. Following two crucial blocks by Lauren Hogan and Elisabeth Bachman to bring the score to 14-11, the Bruins squandered three match points before CSU tied the match at 14-14. A kill by Elisabeth Bachman gave UCLA a 15-14 advantage and a fourth match point. CSU's Courtney Cox, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, had a kill to tie it back up at 15-15 before a hitting error by Kristee Porter gave the Rams match point. Porter then hit into a block to end the match.

"If you have a money player, you're going to go to her," said UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski, "and that's what Kristee Porter is for us. Colorado State played well, but we squandered some opportunities. I thought we would pull it out tonight, but we were a few kills short."

Two Bruins, setter Erika Selsor and outside hitter Kristee Porter, were named to the State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic. They were joined on the All-Tournament team by Penn State's Mishka Levy, Florida's Nicole McCray, and Cox, Allison Peckham and Angela Knopf from Colorado State.

The top-ranked Bruins travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday before leaving for Honolulu and the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic. The Bruins open against Iowa on Sept. 1, and will also face off against No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 5 Hawai'i in the tournament. The Sept. 3 match against Texas A&M and the Sept. 4 match against Hawai'i will be broadast live on www.uclabruins.com.
