Clemens Seeded No. 7 in NCAA Singles Championships . . .
The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee has selected 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams that will compete in the NCAA Individual Championships. Tobias Clemens has earned a No. 7 seed, while Luben Pampoulov is listed as the first alternate. In addition to Clemens and Pampoulov, the Bruins had two doubles teams selected for the NCAA Doubles Championships. Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta are listed as a No. 5-8 seed. Philipp Gruendler and Pampoulov are also in. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 26-31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following the conclusion of the team championships (May 22-25).

All-Pac-10 Honors Released . . .
For the third year in a row, Tobias Clemens was named a first-team All-Pac-10 selection, leading a list of three Bruins named to All-Pac-10 teams last week. In addition to Clemens, Chris Lam (2nd Team) and Luben Pampoulov (Honorable Mention) also earned All-Pac-10 honors Wednesday. It is the second such honor for Lam after being named an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection a year ago. Although Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta didn't capture this year's Pac-10 title, they have been the most consistent team in the Pac-10 all season, earning Co-Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year honors along with Cal's Patrick Briaud/Balazs Veress.

Bruins Round Out Pac-10 Championships With Two Titles . . .
UCLA's Philipp Gruendler and Luben Pampoulov captured the Pac-10 men's doubles title with an 8-3 victory over Stanford's KC Corkery/James Pade on Apr. 25. They become the first UCLA team to win the title since Marcin Matkowski and Jean-Julien Rojer won it back in 2002. Playing in the Pac-10 Invitational draw, sophomore Chris Surapol took home a title of his own at Ojai, defeating Stanford's Carter Morris, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the championship match.

UCLA Ties for Pac-10 Team Title . . .
UCLA headed into the final week of the regular season needing a little help to claim this year's Pac-10 title. At 4-1, the Bruins desperately needed previously unbeaten USC (5-0) to drop at least one of its final two matches up in the Bay Area. After narrowly defeating No. 11 Stanford, 4-3 and blanking Cal, 7-0, the Bruins awaited the result of Saturday's Stanford vs. USC match. As it turned out, the Cardinal won 5-2, helping UCLA tie USC for this year's Pac-10 title. However, since the Trojans defeated the Bruins in the only Pac-10 counting match between the two teams, USC earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Winning Streak Reaches Nine . . .
UCLA is without a doubt one of the hottest teams in the country, taking a nine-match winning streak into this week's NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have not lost a dual match since a 4-3 setback to then-No. 10 Duke back on Mar. 10. During the streak, the Bruins have defeated five top-25 teams, including No. 9/11 Stanford (twice), No. 18 Washington, No. 22 Arizona State and No. 25 Arizona.

30-Match Winners . . .
UCLA could conceivably have six players with 30 or more singles victories this season. As it currently stands, the Bruins have four players in the 30-win club, including Tobias Clemens (32-8), Alberto Francis (32-9), Kris Kwinta (31) and Chris Lam (31). Luben Pampoulov and Philipp Gruendler would likely be in that class had they not joined the team after the fall season.

Did You Know? . . .
UCLA and USC are the only two teams to have played in all 28 NCAA Tournaments since the team format was adopted in 1977.

Head Coach Billy Martin . . .
The 1996 ITA National Coach of the Year and UCLA's 1975 NCAA singles champion, Billy Martin, owns a 248-49 (.835) record in his 11th season as head coach at UCLA. He has led the Bruins into the NCAA Tournament in each of his 11 seasons, guiding the team to seven top-4 finishes, including trips to the finals in 1996 and '99. UCLA has also won four Pac-10 titles during his tenure.
