LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UCLA Women's Water polo team downed No. 7 Loyola Marymount 4-3 in a defensive affair at LMU. The game was a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship semifinals and with the non-conference victory the Bruins move to 17-3 overall.
The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 at the half off 6 on 5 goals from Molly Cahill and Jenna Murphy. The Lions were able to cut the lead to one in the third period with a goal, but in the fourth period a 6 on 5 goal by Kristina Kunkel and Molly Cahill's second goal of the game extended UCLA's lead to 4-1. The Lions would mount a comeback in the last 3:30 of the game with two goals and would have the ball with 37 seconds left. But, the UCLA defense and goalkeeper Emily Feher were able to stop the Lions, earning UCLA the 4-3 victory. Feher finished the game with eight saves.
UCLA will continue its road trip tomorrow with a game against UC Irvine and then travel to No. 4 Long Beach State on Saturday.
