The top-seeded UCLA men's golf team endured two weather delays and is three-under par at the NCAA West Regional hosted by the University of Washington at Washington National Golf Course.
Rain, hail and lighting forced delays of nearly five hours. Twelve of the 27 teams finished, but six had not started the first round. The Bruins, at three-under par on holes one through four, stand atop the leaderboard, followed by Arizona at two-under and New Mexico at one-under.
Among the teams that finished round one, the University of Denver and Oregon were in first place at seven-over par 295.
UCLA sophomore John Poucher is two-under par after four holes, having birdied both par fives on the front side. Junior Travis Johnson is one-under after a birdie at the par four third. Roy Moon and Steve Conway are even and John Merrick is one stroke over par.
Among players who have finished, Michael Jurgensen of Oregon State, Gregg LaVoie of Oregon and Chris Piercy of Old Dominion are tied for first at even par.
After the first round is finished on Friday, round two will immediately follow.
