Four-time and defending NCAA Champion UCLA will host the 2004 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships Apr. 15-17 in Pauley Pavilion.
UCLA is currently the No. 1 ranked team in the nation and one of the favorites to claim the title this season. The Bruins, who are coached by four-time National Coach of the Year Valorie Kondos Field, boast the top two all-around competitors in the nation in Jeanette Antolin and Kate Richardson. UCLA's roster includes a total of three NCAA Champions in Richardson (2003 beam and bars), Jamie Dantzscher (2003 bars, 2002 all-around, vault and floor) and Yvonne Tousek (2001 bars), four Olympians (Dantzscher, Kristen Maloney, Richardson and Tousek) and seven World Championships competitors.
The first day of competition, Thursday, April 15, will be held in two sessions. Six teams will compete in the first session at 1 pm, and another will compete in the second session at 7 pm. If UCLA qualifies, it will compete in the evening session. Those two sessions will consist of the team preliminaries and the individual all-around championship. The top three teams from each of Thursday's sessions will advance to the team finals Friday, April 16 at 7 pm. Individual event finals will be held Saturday, April 17 at 7 pm.
Teams qualify into the Championships by placing in the Top 2 at the six NCAA Regional Championships. The Regional Championships will take place Apr. 2-3 at pre-determined sites.
UCLA previously hosted the NCAA Championships in 1998 and 1984.
