UCLA All-Americans Carlos Bocanegra (Alta Loma, CA/Alta Loma HS) and Sasha Victorine (Corona, CA/Rio Americano HS) were selected by the National Soccer Hall of Fame as two of 15 finalists for the Hermann Trophy, which honors the most outstanding collegiate male and female player in the nation.
Victorine, a senior midfielder, is a 1999 pre-season All-American and a two-time All-Far West selection. He was a Hermann Trophy and MAC Award finalist a year ago. Bocanegra, a junior defender, also earned pre-season All-America honors this season and is a two-time all-conference performer and a Freshman All-American in 1997. This is Bocanegra's first Player of the Year nomination.
Both players were on the U.S. U-23 National Team which won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games this summer.
The winners of the 33rd Hermann Trophy will be announced Saturday, Dec. 11 in a ceremony in Charlotte, NC, the site of the 1999 Men's Division I Championship.
