Final Stats

The Bruins (17-21) were held to three hits in the first seven innings by Trojan starter Brian Bannister, while USC (17-17) scored in each of the first five frames to post a 7-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field.

The Trojans posted one run in each of the first three innings, before recording three in the bottom of the fourth. A lead-off walk got the rally under way before four singles drove in the USC runs.

Spencer Gordon added the final Trojan run in the fifth inning when he hit a home run off Bruin starter Wes Whisler (3-5).

UCLA would get on the board in the top of the eighth inning when a lead-off single from Chris Jensen started the rally. After Kevin Conlin was hit by Bannister and the runners advanced on a wild pitch, Brett McMillan drove Jensen in with a RBI-single up the middle. Conlin would come in on another Bannister wild pitch before Whisler's RBI-single brought in McMillan.

Reliever Bryan Beck was flawless in the final three innings, facing the minimum nine batters while striking out three.

Warren Trott started a ninth-inning rally with his lead-off single. He would go to third on a single from Jensen, before scoring on a ground-out from Conlin. However, the comeback would fall short as a fly-out ended the contest.

UCLA will return to Dedeaux Field tomorrow to wrap-up the three game series. Right-hander Casey Janssen will take the mound for UCLA. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
