Caulfield Throws Lifetime-Best in the Shot at Salinas

May 19, 2005

Freshman John Caulfield led a trio of shot putters at Wednesday's Salinas Throwers Invitational, hosted by Hartnell College, as he threw a lifetime-best 62-1.75 (old best, 61-7.75) in the shot put to win the event. Last weekend, Caulfield earned All-Pac-10 honors after finishing third in the shot put.

Junior Jeremy Silverman placed second in the shot put competition with a throw of 61-8.25, while freshman Greg Garza, throwing in his first shot competition of the season, finished third with a toss of 51-1.

In the invitational discus competition, Garza finished eighth with a throw of 181-7, just off his season-best of 185-4. Silverman ended the day with a toss of 161-5, while Caulfield threw 157-1.

The throwers will return to competition next weekend in Eugene, OR as the No. 15 UCLA men head to the West Region meet to defend their title.
