The No. 9 UCLA Women's Tennis team will make the short trip to Malibu on Friday to play Pepperdine at noon. The Bruins defeated the Waves 6-1 on Jan. 25 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Bruins Mix it Up with the SEC . . .
At the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor tournament in Madison, WI last weekend, the Bruins faced No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Georgia, and No. 11 Tennessee. UCLA defeated the Volunteers 4-3, but fell to Florida and Georgia by the same score. UCLA's Jackie Carleton and Susi Wild won all three of their singles matches over the weekend, and Walker faced three fellow top-ten singles players. Against Tennessee on Friday, Walker fell in three sets to No. 4 Vilmarie Castellvi, 7-5, 5-7, (10-8), but rebounded on Saturday to knock off No. 7 Lindsey Dawaf of Florida 6-2, 6-4. Carleton and Wild also had big days against the Gators, with No. 84 Carleton defeating No. 9 Alexis Gordon 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Wild beating No. 22 Julie Rotondi 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Against Georgia, No. 1 Agata Cioroch needed three sets to get past Walker, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Walker Earns USTA Sportsmanship Award . . . Sara Walker's display of outstanding sportsmanship at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor tournament earned her the United States Tennis Association Sportsmanship Award. The tournament's 16 participating head coaches nominated her for the award, which recognizes a player that exemplifies the spirit of college tennis.
UCLA Keeps Top-10 Status in Rankings . . . The Bruins moved into the 9th spot in the ITA's Top-25, released February 5. Following the tough competition at Team Indoors, the Bruins have 11 top-25 teams on their schedule, including 6 of the other 9 top-10 teams. New team rankings will come out Feb. 12, while new individual rankings will appear Feb. 26.

Stella Sampras Webster Earns 100th Win . . . UCLA's win over No. 11 Tennessee was the 100th of head coach Stella Sampras Webster's career. In her first six seasons, she guided the Bruins to five top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including three top-5 showings (1997, 2000, and 2002). In 2000, she was named the ITA West Region Coach of the Year. The former Stella Sampras married Steve Webster on January 3, 2003.
