2016 NFL Draft
UCLA's Brian Polak Named To Student Advantage's FANSonly Network Pre-Season Second-Team All-America Football Squad

Aug. 10, 2000

CARLSBAD, Calif. - Several Heisman hopefuls and a trio of players from defending national champion Florida State highlight the first-team selections on the 2000 FANSonly/Student Advantage Preseason All-America squad, which was announced Thursday.

There were no unanimous picks among the players chosen by collegiate sports information directors from across the country. Florida State paced the squad by placing end Roland Seymour, cornerback Tay Cody, and safety Derrick Gibson on the first-team defense. Heisman candidates Drew Brees of Purdue, Santana Moss of Miami (Fla.), Deuce McAllister of Ole Miss and LaDainian Tomlinson of Texas Christian were among the marquee names voted on to the first-team offense.

A prolific quarterback, Brees has been on the Heisman radar screen for two years, having thrown for 3,983 yards and 39 touchdowns in 1998 and 3,909 yards and 25 touchdowns in 1999. Perhaps the nation's most explosive wideout and an electrifying return man, Moss is poised for a breakout season after making 54 catches for 899 yards and six TDs last year. McAllister is a tailback with a rare combination of size and speed who accounted for 1,692 yards of total offense with 13 TDs last season before exploding for 239 all-purpose yards against Oklahoma in the Independence Bowl. Tomlinson led the nation in rushing last season at 1,850 yards and set an NCAA single-game record of 406 rushing yards against UTEP.

Rounding out the first-team offense are wide receiver David Terrell, Michigan, tight end Todd Heap, Arizona State, center Dominic Raiola, Nebraska, guards Steve Hutchinson, Michigan and Russ Hochstein, Nebraska, tackles Pork Chop Womack, Mississippi State and Kareem McKenzie, Penn State, and placekicker Jamie Rheem, Kansas State.

The remaining first-team defense includes tackles Wendell Bryant, Wisconsin and Willie Howard, Stanford, end Alex Brown, Florida, outside linebackers Keith Adams, Clemson and Eric Westmoreland, Tennessee, inside linebacker Zeke Moreno, Southern Cal, cornerback Jamar Fletcher, safety Robert Carswell, Clemson, and punter Nick Harris, California.

Sophomore quarterback Michael Vick of 1999 national runner-up Virginia Tech heads up the FANSonly/Student Advantage All-America second-team. Other second-team offensive selections are running backs LaMont Jordan, Maryland and Ricky Williams, Texas Tech, wide receivers Freddie Milons, Alabama and Quincy Morgan, Kansas State, tight end Alge Crumpler, North Carolina, center Paul Hogan, Alabama, guards Brian Polack, UCLA and Bill Ferrario, Wisconsin, tackles Leonard Davis, Texas and Jeff Backus, Michigan, and placekicker Dan Nystrom Minnesota.

The second-team defense selections are tackles Casey Hampton, Texas and Ennis Davis, USC, ends Justin Smith, Missouri and Andre Carter, California, outside linebackers Saleem Rasheed, Alabama and Jason Glenn, Texas A&M, inside linebacker Carlos Polk, Nebraska, cornerbacks Fred Smoot, Mississippi State and Renaldo Hill, Michigan State, safeties Jerrod Cooper, Kansas State and Tony Driver, Notre Dame, and punter Dan Hadenfeldt, Nebraska.
