Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA freshman Onnie Willis has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for February 2-8.
Willis, from Tacoma, Wash., tied a Pauley Pavilion record on bars with a 9.975, while leading UCLA to a school and Pac-10 record team total of 197.8 over Stanford. Willis' mark on bars is a career-high and ties for the highest score in the nation this season.
Willis tied or set career-highs in all four events and the all-around. The freshman tied for first on floor with a career-high 9.95, tied for fourth on vault with a career-high tying 9.85 and tied for fifth on beam with a career-high 9.75. In the all-around she scored a UCLA freshman record 39.525 to tie for third place.
The Gymnast of the Week honor is the second for UCLA this season. Mohini Bhardwaj won the award Jan. 18.
