UCLA All-American Charlotte Mayorkas began her summer with a convincing five-stroke victory Sunday at the San Diego City Amateur held at Torrey Pines South.

Mayorkas, a native of Chula Vista who completed her sophomore year at UCLA last week, was tied with Avery Kiser of Rancho Santa Fe entering the final hole. A par by Mayorkas at No. 18 initially gave her a two-stroke victory after Kiser recorded a double bogey. But Kiser was disqualified after signing an incorrect scorecard. Mayorkas' 54-hole total (played over two weekends) of six-over 225 was six strokes better than runner-up Beth Allen, who posted a 76 in the final round. Mayorkas fired a final round two-under par 71.

"I was kind of hoping for a playoff," said Mayorkas. "It would have been fun and interesting. But I was just playing my own game. I was trying to go shot by shot and play the course.

"It's fun to win," she continued. "This is probably the best one of the summer for me."

Mayorkas and teammates Hana Kim and Yvonne Choe will travel to Florida this week to participate in the U.S. Women's Amateur PubLinks Championship at Ocean Hammock Golf Course in Palm Coast.
