Feb. 24, 2003

Up Next . . .
The No. 9 UCLA Women's Tennis team will face local rival Loyola Marymount on Wednesday at 1:30 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins are 10-0 all-time versus the Lions, winning 7-0 last January. LMU is 1-3, dropping two matches to opponents that UCLA has already met this year, UC Irvine and Long Beach State.

Bruins Take Two Of Three . . .
UCLA played three matches in the past week, first against Fresno State on Feb. 19. Following a doubles sweep, singles wins by Sarah Gregg, Susi Wild, and Laura Gordon enabled the Bruins to knock off the Bulldogs 4-3. Friday, UCLA traveled to Tempe to face No. 8 Arizona State. The Sun Devils edged UCLA 2-1 in doubles and were able to take the match 4-3 despite singles wins by Wild, Gregg, and No. 84 Jackie Carleton over No. 39 Dora Krstulovic. Saturday, the Bruins clinched a positive weekend with a 4-3 win over No. 24 Arizona. Carleton, Wild, Anya Loncaric, and Shilpa Joshi notched wins for the Bruins, clinching the match. Wild has won her last seven singles matches, and Joshi's win was the first of her Bruin career.

Looking Ahead . . .
The Bruins will begin the Pac-10 season on Mar. 5 at USC, playing all eight Pac-10 matches over a span of six weeks. UCLA has already played three Pac-10 schools, but those matches did not count toward the Pac-10 standings.

UCLA Keeps Top-10 Status in Rankings . . .
The top ten teams in the ITA Top-25 ranking remained unchanged since the last poll, with UCLA still in the ninth spot. The Bruins have a schedule that features six of the top eight teams, as well as five of the other top 25 teams. New team and individual rankings will appear on Wednesday. Presently, the Bruins have two ranked singles players in No. 6 Sara Walker and No. 84 Jackie Carleton.
