Madison, WI - The No. 9 UCLA women's tennis team completed the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor tournament in Madison, WI with a 4-3 defeat to the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs. UCLA finished the tournament with a 1-2 record, defeating No. 11 Tennessee 4-3 and falling to No. 2 Florida by the same score.
Georgia won the doubles point by taking all three matches. The Bruins took a 2-1 lead in the match with wins by No. 84 Jackie Carleton over Anne Nguyen 6-3, 0-6, 6-1, and Susi Wild over Lori Grey 6-1, 6-2. The wins concluded a 3-0 weekend for both Carleton and Wild.
But the Bulldogs took the next three matches to clinch the win. Evgenia Subbotina beat Laura Gordon 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, and No. 60 Tina Hojnik defeated Sarah Gregg 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. National No. 1 Agata Cioroch won the marquee matchup of the afternoon against No. 6 Sara Walker of UCLA, clinching the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
UCLA's Anya Loncaric made the final 4-3 with her win over Alexandra Smith 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(3).
The Bruins will resume their season at noon on Friday, Feb. 14 in Malibu, CA against Pepperdine. UCLA defeated Pepperdine 6-1 on Jan. 25 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
