After defeating No. 18 Brown 12-1 and No. 6 San Diego State 10-2 at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center the Bruins are now 16-3 overall and 5-2 in the MPSF. UCLA has now defeated eleven ranked opponents in a row, a streak that has earned them the number one ranking in the country.
The Bruins will travel north this weekend for their final regular season road trip. UCLA will face No. 5 UC Berkeley on Saturday and Pacific on Sunday in a pair of conference match-ups.
Vs. No. 18 Brown University, March 27, 2003
The Bruins offense and defense was equally impressive in a 12-1 defeat of No. 18 Brown in a non-conference match-up. UCLA jumped out to a 10-0 lead before the Brown Bears were able to score. Goalies Jaime Hipp and Tahlia Kerr combined to shut down the Bears, with Kelly Rulon leading all scorers with three goals. The Bruins improved to 15-3 overall and extended their winning streak to ten games.
Vs. No. 6 San Diego State, March 28, 2003
The Bruins continued their winning ways with a 10-2 defeat of No. 6 San Diego State University in an MPSF match-up. After taking a 2-1 lead in the first quarter, UCLA out scored the Aztecs 4-0 in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.
Kristyn Pulver led UCLA's scoring effort, netting a hat trick, including a penalty shot. Following Pulver was Maureen Flanagan, who netted two goals in less than a minute. Natalie Golda also netted two goals in the victory. Robin Beauregard and Kelly Rulon and Lauren Heineck each scored a goal.
Goalkeeper Jaime Hipp had seven saves on the day.
Vs. No. 4 Long Beach State, March 14, 2003
The Bruins finished up a two-game homestand with a convincing 10-4 victory over Long Beach State in an MPSF match up. UCLA got out to an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter before pulling away with a four goal second quarter to take a 7-2 lead going into the second half. Though the Bruins would only score three times in the second half, the 49ers would only manage to score one goal in the third and fourth quarters.
About the Opponents: UC Berkeley and University of the Pacific
This will be the first time this season that the Bruins have faced either UC Berkeley or the University of the Pacific.
Last season the Bruins defeated California twice and currently hold a 21-5 all time record against the Bears.
In the teams only meeting last season, UCLA defeated Pacific 20-4 and now have a 10-0 all time record against the Tigers.
Senior Goalkeeper Jaime Hipp has been outstanding in the net, recording 133 saves with a goals against average of 3.48.
During the Bruins current eleven game winning streak, UCLA has yet to allow more than five goals in a game.
The Bruins have allowed a total of 59 goals on the season.
In 11 of the Bruins 16 victories, UCLA has scored more than ten goals in a game. UCLA has scored a total of 186 goals on the year.
