Final Stats

SAN FRANCISCO - The 14th-ranked UCLA Bruin women's volleyball team was in action at San Francisco on the one year anniversary of the attacks on September 11. The national tragedy was memorialized with a moment of silence prior to the start of the match. The Bruins defeated USF 3-1 to improve to 4-3 on the 2002 season.

UCLA handed the Dons a 30-16, 30-28, 31-33, 30-16 loss Wednesday in non-conference action in War Memorial Gym. Four Bruins reached double-figure kills on the night, led by a match-high 16 from junior middle blocker Cira Wright.

The Bruins cruised in game one as San Francisco failed to mount a serious threat, but the story was different when USF lead for majority of the second set, before the Bruins rebounded and edged USF by two points. San Francisco answered back with a stirring win in game three, fighting back from three UCLA match points for the 33-31 victory.

UCLA would recover in game four and overpowered the Dons, holding USF to a -.033 attack percentage. For the match, the Bruins hit at a solid .268 clip with 72 kills, while the Dons registered a .097 pace with 45 terminations.

Joining Wright in double-figure kills for the Bruins were sophomore middle blocker Brynn Murphy with 15, senior outside hitter Lauren Fendrick with 14, and senior middle blocker Angela Eckmier downing 12 on .647 hitting to go along with five block assists.

The Bruins will return to action on Friday, Sept. 13, when they face host Portland at the Nike Portland Invitational in Portland, OR.
