Ballona Creek - Marina del Rey, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team had a strong performance today as it swept UC Irvine in its 2004 regular-season opener. The Bruins were victorious in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, novice eight, and second novice eight competitions.

UCLA showed control over UC Irvine in every race, gaining open-water advantages within the first 1000 meters. Each boat won by at least 15-seconds.

The UCLA women's varsity eight set the tone for the season with a decisive victory, posting a time of 6:51.0 over the 2000m course in a slight headwind and incoming tide.

The UCLA varsity eight consisted of Jessica Rogers (stroke), Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Kristin Bixel, Monica Grova, Dawn Regan, Jessica Fritz, Elizabeth Felter, Irene Condella, and Emina Ong (cox).

The Bruins return to action next weekend as they host Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Mar. 27, and compete at USC on Sunday, Mar. 28.
