Bruins Place Third in Rain-Shortened Western Intercollegiate

March 29, 2005

A pair of rain showers Tuesday forced the cancellation of the final round of the 59th Annual Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz.

As a result of the inclement weather, the 36-hole leaders were declared the winners. Oregon won with a team score of 582 (+22), followed by Kansas at 584 (+24) and UCLA at 586 (+26). Stanford placed fourth at 589 and UC Irvine was fifth at 590.

UCLA's Daniel Im captured second place at even par 140 after posting rounds of 68-72. Freshman Kevin Chappel was the only other UCLA player to finish among the top 20. He tied for 12th at 145 after carding rounds of 72-75.

Cal Poly's J.J. Scurich won the event with a two-under par total of 138 (68-70).
