Bruins Coming off Rare Split in Arizona . . .
The Bruins do not traditionally lose to the Arizona schools. Especially when you consider that UCLA entered last week with an impressive 107-1 all-time record against both Arizona and Arizona State. UCLA, however, suffered only its second loss ever to ASU on Friday, falling 5-2 on Friday. After losing the doubles point, the Bruins' only two victories were by Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta. UCLA managed to rebound the following day, pulling out a 4-3 decision over Arizona in Tucson. Although the Bruins lost the doubles point again, they received victories from Francis, Philipp Gruendler, Chris Surapol and eventually Tobias Clemens to secure the win.
UCLA in the Rankings . . .
Following its run to the finals at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors, UCLA vaulted from No. 6 to No. 2 in the ITA National Team Rankings released on Feb. 10. Chris Surapol and Aaron Yovan are No. 36.
