UCLA Falls to Stanford at Gaucho Tournament

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - In a rematch of last years NCAA Championship game the UCLA women's water polo team was unable to repeat last years success and fell to the Stanford Cardinal 6-5. With the victory Stanford advances to the Gaucho Tournament first place game against USC, while the Bruins will face Long Beach State in the tournament's third place game.

UCLA opened the game strong, taking a 2-1 lead after one period, but Stanford would counter back in the second to tie the game at 3-3 at half. In the third period the Bruins took a 5-4 lead but were not able to hold off the Cardinal in the fourth period, being outscored 2-0 to lose 6-5.

Katherine Belden led the Bruins with two goals and Lauren Heineck, Brittney Bowlus and Kristina Kunkel each scored once.
