LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the second time this season, UCLA freshman driver Brett Ormsby (El Cajon/Valhalla) has been named the Mikasa/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week in men's water polo for the week ending Nov. 4. The announcement was made Wednesday morning by MPSF Commissioner Al Beaird.
Ormsby scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the final 75 seconds of the second-ranked Bruins' 8-7 victory over No. 3 Pepperdine last Saturday at Malibu. He also scored twice in UCLA's 8-7 victory over UCSB on Sunday that clinched the second seed in the upcoming MPSF conference tournament.
Ormsby leads the Bruins with 29 goals in 14 matches this season and is on track to become the first freshman to top the team in scoring since Sean Kern in 1997. Ormsby also became the first Bruin ever to collect two Player of the Week honors in the same season, trailing only Kern (three, plus two Player of the Year Awards) in career conference recognition.
