Chris Sands Breezes through Third Round to Advance to Quarterfinals of Rolex Regionals

MALIBU, Calif. - UCLA's Chris Sands cruised past #5 seed Brett Masi of Cal Poly 6-3, 6-1 at the Rolex Regionals Friday. With the win, Sands advances to the quarterfinals, which will be played Saturday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.

After breezing through first and second round matches, UCLA freshman Lassi Ketola dropped a close third round match to #8 seed Alex Aybar of Arizona 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.

UCLA freshman Alan Bohane fell 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 to Cal Poly's Brandon Fallon in second round consolation singles competition.

In doubles action, the #6 seeded duo of Chris Sands and Lassi Ketola defeated Arizona State's Ryan Eveloff and Andrew Golub 8-3 in the second round to advance to the semifinals. Semifinal action continues Saturday.

The ITA Rolex Region VIII-South Men's Tennis Championships is a four-day tournament which began on Thursday, Nov. 4 and concludes on Sunday, Nov. 7. The tournament, which hosts many of the region's top collegiate men's tennis players, includes a 64-player singles and 32-team doubles draw and features players from 12 schools-- Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount, Nevada, Pacific, Pepperdine, San Diego, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and USC.
