ATHENS, Greece - UCLA's Brandon Brooks, Brett Ormsby and Adam Wright will play for seventh place on Sunday at the Main Pool of the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Athens, Greece. Team USA recorded a 6-5 victory over Australia on Friday to advance to the seventh-place match. The U.S. will play Italy on Sunday. The Australians were caught off guard by the Americans, who had a three-goal lead (3-0) by the start of the second period. This gave the team of Ratko RUDIC all the confidence it needed to exploit this safety net of goals and hold on to it until the end of the game. The Australians did make a comeback at one point and caught up to just one goal behind at the beginning of the third period (3-2), but the Americans answered by scoring two more goals to lead 5-2 and then another goal in the last period to make the safety margin 6-3 in their favour. The game ended with a score line of 6-5, with the last goal in the man-up in favour of the Australians, scored by Pietro FIGLIOLI, who also scored three goals for his team, hitting the back of the net just one second before the final whistle. "We played our own game," said UCLA's Brett Ormsby. "We executed all of our moves well. We managed to maintain our lead until the end. We had high expectations for the competition. Most of the players are new and inexperienced. We would have liked to have been higher placed in the tournament." The Americans now go through to play off for seventh place against the winner of today's (17:00) game Italy-Croatia. The Australians on the other hand will go up against the loser of the afore-mentioned game, for ninth place. Both classification matches will take place on Sunday at the Main Pool of the Olympic Aquatics Centre.
