In today's MPSF conference match-up between the UCLA Bruins and San Diego State Aztecs, the Bruin won 8-5. UCLA is now 15-3 on the season, 5-1 in MPSF competition.
Kristina Kunkel kicked things off for the Bruins, scoring the first goal of the game with 24.8 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Bruins ended the second quarter with a 5-2 lead over the Aztecs. Bruins Katherine Belden, Molly Cahill, Paloma Slezak and Brittney Bowlus each netted a goal before the half. For the Aztecs, Savanah Kelley and Holly Hartzell each netted a goal, bringing San Diego State within three goals of the Bruins.
After the half, Cahill scored her second goal of the game with 5:33 to go in the third quarter. Hartzell scored her second goal of the game 10 seconds after Cahill, bringing the Aztecs back within three of the Bruin. But, Lauren Heineck notched a goal with 1:10 to go in the quarter, giving the Bruins a 7-3 lead.
In the final quarter, Jenna Murphy scored a goal with 5:50 to go in the game. Following Murphy's score, Aztecs Dominique Delgado and Chelsy Smith each netted a goal. However, the Bruins held on for the 8-5 victory.
Tomorrow, the Bruins will face the Arizona State Sun Devils. The game will begin at 1:00 PM at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
