Final Stats

The No. 16 UCLA women's volleyball team downed Arizona State in three games (30-28, 30-26, 30-27) on Friday night to extend their win streak to six matches. Freshman Kaitlin Sather led a trio of Bruins with double digit kills as UCLA improved to 17-8 (9-6, Pac-10).

Sather posted 18 kills, while junior Katie Carter and Rachell Johnson added 11 and 10, respectively. Freshman Jordan Smith led the team with 12 digs, while Johnson highlighted the team with four blocks (1-3). As a team, the Bruins hit for .321 (62-20-131), while ASU hit just .258 (48-16-124).

In game one, ASU struck first with a kill by Staci Smith, but with the game tied at 7, UCLA would take their first lead of the game off an attack error by Arizona State's Nina Reeves. Once in the lead, the Bruins never looked back as they would take game one 30-28.

The Sundevils scored first in game two after a service error by freshman Nellie Spicer, but UCLA would take the lead after a kill by Johnson and proceeded on a 4-0 run to lead 14-9. ASU closed in to tie the game at 20 all after an attack error by junior Laura Kroneberger, but the Bruins would regain the lead after a block by junior Nana Meriwether and Johnson, 21-20. UCLA would go on to win game two 30-26.

In game two, UCLA never trailed after opening up with a kill by senior Nancy Barba. The Bruins would lead by as many as four points several times in the third game, eventually winning 30-27.

The Bruins will continue their Arizona road trip on Saturday when they head to Tucson to take on the No. 6 Wildcats at 6:00 pm (Pacific).
