Day #2 - May 18, 2004 (Wednesday)
After a good night's rest, I woke up and took a little drive to see the sights and sounds of Tulsa. I had to make a couple of stops to pick up some groceries and tennis equipment before our first practice session. Tulsa is quite humid with 15-20 mph winds. This will be a good test to see how mentally tough our players can be with these weather factors.
We left the hotel at 12:30 p.m. for a local tennis club. This gave left the entire morning open for the team to get a good night's rest, eat breakfast and see the trainers for treatment before practice. The Southern Hills Country Club was absolutely beautiful with an incredible golf course. They have hosted both the U.S. Open and PGA Championships and I know that several staff members wished they were on the golf course! We had a fairly light first hit before breaking for a few hours for lunch and rest. Our second practice of the day was more intense and the team is slowly adjusting to the weather conditions.
We had dinner with our host family this evening. At the National Indoors and the National Championships, a local family "adopts" one of the 16 teams at the event and follows them throughout the tournament. Our family was incredibly hospitable and the team had a great time watching the T-Wolves/Kings game with them. We got back to the hotel at around 9:30 p.m. and ended the evening with our daily team meeting.
Signing off from Tulsa!
