WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA pitcher/center fielder Amanda Freed has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while ARIZONA STATE?s Erica Beach was named Pitcher of the Week for February 12 - 17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Freed, from Cypress, Calif., was UCLA?s top hitter for the week as the Bruins won five games to improve to 14-0 on the season. During that five-game span, Freed went 11-for 16 (.688) with 10 runs scored, one home run, seven RBI, one double, one triple, three walks and a slugging percentage of 1.063. Additionally, Freed pitched during the week, gaining victories over 13th-ranked Alabama, 12th-ranked Nebraska and fourth-ranked LSU with a 1.24 ERA. She struck out 16 batters in 17.0 innings and held opponents to a .169 batting average.

For the season, Freed is batting .475 with 19 runs scored, one home run, 13 RBI, 28 total bases, 13 walks and a .700 slugging percentage. In the circle, Freed is 7-0 with an 0.54 ERA. She also has 38 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .162 batting average. This is the second consecutive week that a UCLA player has won Pac-10 Player of the Week honors.

Beach, from Scottsdale, Ariz., posted a perfect 3-0 record, including her third shutout of the year at this past weekend?s Louisville Slugger Classic Tournament. Beach was a main factor in the Sun Devils winning the tournament as she pitched 21 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out 13. The earned run allowed was the first all year, snapping a streak of 39.2 consecutive scoreless innings. Beach also helped offensively, belting a three-run homer against sixth-ranked Iowa to put the game out of reach.

For the season, Beach is 6-0 (three shutouts) in 42 innings pitched. She has allowed just one earned run (0.17 ERA) and struck out 32 batters.
