LOS ANGELES - Head coach Cyndi Gallagher's women's swimming team has been selected as the top-ranked team in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, it was announced today. This is the first time in the 26-year history of the women's program that the Bruins have held a No. 1 ranking. The 1975-76 UCLA women's swimming and diving team claimed the Pac-8 title while finishing the season undefeated (6-0) and finishing second in the AIAW Championships.
UCLA earned the ranking in part because of their dual meet win over the previous top-ranked team in the poll, with a 159-140 victory over then-No. 1 Arizona last Saturday (Nov. 11) at Men's Gym Pool on the UCLA campus.
The Bruin swimmers return to action this weekend at the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, IL, Nov. 17-19. The diving team will compete at the Trojan Invitational at USC on Thursday and Friday before traveling to Evanston on Saturday.
