Bruins To Send 16 Athletes To Compete At 2004 NCAA Outdoor T & F Championships

Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's track & field team will send 16 athletes to compete in 13 events at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 9-12 in Austin, TX and hosted by the University of Texas.

The Bruin women, last week rated No. 1 in the U. S. (the new Trackwire ranking will come out June 2), already this season have won the Pacific-10 and NCAA West Region championships. Under Bolden, in her 11th season as head coach, UCLA has ten, Top 10 finishes at the NCAA Outdoor, including eight Top 3 placements. The Bruins have finished second on five occasions (2002-01-99-98-95). Last year, UCLA finished eighth. Under Bolden, the Bruins have won two NCAA Indoor titles (2001-00).

Here's the list of UCLA's 2004 women competitors. All are automatic qualifiers except, UCLA's 4 X 400m relay, senior Julie Stevenson (high jump), sophomore Jackie Nguyen (pole vault) and freshman Kamaiya Warrant (shot put).

400m Hurdles-No. 1 senior Sheena Johnson, 54.32 (5/14). Johnson is the defending NCAA Outdoor 400m hurdles champion and the 2004 NCAA West Region and Pac-10 100m/400m hurdles champion.
4 X 100m Relay - No. 3 Roseby, senior Adia McKinnon, Harper, Henderson, 43.43(5/15). This relay won the 2004 Pac-10.
4 X 400m Relay - No. 7 Roseby, Johnson, McKinnon, Henderson, 3:32.39 (5/15). This relay won the 2004 Pac-10.
High Jump - No. 4 sophomore Sheena Gordon, 6-2 (1.88)(5/29). Gordon is the 2004 NCAA West Region champion. No. 20 senior Julie Stevenson, 5-10.75 (1.80)(5/1)
Pole Vault - No. 1 sophomore Chelsea Johnson, 15-0 (4.57)(3/27). Johnson's 15-0 is the NCAA Outdoor record and she's the 2004 NCAA West Region champion. No. 23 sophomore Jackie Nguyen, 13-2.25 (4.02)(5/15)
Long Jump - No. 14 junior Candice Baucham, 20-9.75 (6.34)(5/1)
Triple Jump - No. 5 junior Candice Baucham, 44-8 (13.61)(5/15). Baucham is the 2004 Pac-10 triple jump champion.
Shot Put - No. 6 junior Jessica Cosby, 56-7.25 (17.25)(4/18). Cosby won the shot put crown at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor. No. 13 freshman Kamaiya Warren, 55-2.75 (16.83)(5/1)
Hammer Throw - No. 6 junior Jessica Cosby, 214-9 (65.46)(5/28). Cosby is the 2004 NCAA West Region and Pac-10 champion. No. 7 senior Cari Soong, 213-5 (65.05)(5/28). Soong is the 2003 NCAA West Region and Pac-10 Champion.
