Bruins remain unbeaten at Stanford Invitational

In their second match of the day women's water polo defeated No.3 USC to bring their 2003 record to 2-0. The Bruins are in first place in Bracket B with one game of pool play left to play.

USC took an early 2-1 lead through the first period, but the Bruins answered back, outscoring the Trojans 3-0 in the second period. The Bruins would maintain their lead throughout the rest of the game outscoring the Trojans 4-2 in the second half.

Freshman Kelly Rulon notched the Bruins second hat trick of the day (Golda had the other one in an earlier victory over Hawaii) with Senior Robin Beauregard, Junior Natalie Golda, Freshman Kristina Kunkel, Senior Jessica Lopez and Senior Ashley Stachowski each scoring one goal. Goalie Jaime Hipp recorded seven saves. For USC, Sofia Konouch scored two goals and Eszter Gyori and Liz Simms each scored once. Goalie Kelly Graff had 10 saves.

Early in the day the Bruins defeated No. 10 Hawaii 7-3 with Natalie Golda leading all Bruin scorers with three goals.

The Bruins resume play tomorrow against UC Santa Cruz at 10:00 AM. The championship game will be at 5:00 PM at the Avery Pool.
