Six Bruins among the Top 20 at SoCal Amateur

Six UCLA players are among the individuals who made the 36-hole cut after the first day at the 104th Southern California Amateur Championships, hosted by the SCGA at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego County. Torrey Pines, site of the 2008 U.S. Open, plays to a par of 72 over 7,300 yards.

Junior Roy Moon posted rounds of 74-65--139 and is in second place at five-under par. He trails USC sophomore Nico Bollini, the defending champion, by four shots. Bollini posted rounds of 67-68--135.

Other Bruins who made the cut include junior Steve Conway (72-74--146), who is tied for seventh place; sophomore Breene Murphy (72-75--147) and junior Travis Johnson (69-78--147), who are tied for 10th place; and junior John Merrick (75-73--148) and sophomore John Poucher (71-77--148), who are tied for 17th place.

Third round action continues Saturday.
