June 6, 2006

Junior pitcher Hector Ambriz (Placentia, CA/Valencia HS) of the UCLA Baseball team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week (May 30-June 4).

Ambriz was named to the Malibu All-Region team after leading UCLA to a first-round win over UC Irvine. He earned his second complete-game win of the year, allowing two runs (both unearned) on just four hits, with five strikeouts and four walks. Ambriz finished the game strong, retiring the final 13-of-14 Anteaters he faced to close out a tough win for UCLA. On the year, he finished with an 8-7 record, a 3.65 ERA, two complete-game wins, two saves, and 97 strikeouts in 113.1 innings pitched.

This is Ambriz's second UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
