LOS ANGELES - UCLA center Shawn Stuart and place kicker/punter Chris Sailer are two of 35 football players at NCAA member institutions that have been awarded NCAA Post-Graduate scholarships of $5,000.
Stuart, a three-year starter, graduated last June and is currently attending graduate school. He majored in Sociology with a minor in Education and Business and compiled a 3.62 grade-point average. He has been on the Director's Honor Roll (3.00 or higher) in all 14 of his quarters at UCLA. He was also named to the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team earlier this month.
Sailer, who ranks No. 7 on UCLA's career scoring list, holds the school record for career punts and career yardage to go with his average of 41.9. He owns a grade-point average of 3.32 and is majoring in Communication Studies. He has been on the Director's Honor Roll in eight of his nine previous quarters. In 1997, Sailer earned first-team All-America honors as both a place kicker and a punter.
UCLA student-athletes have now earned 50 NCAA Post-Graduate scholarships, including 15 by members of the football team.
