Release:  07/19/2000
The NCAA has announced that UCLA women's swimming standout Keiko Price and men's water polo star Parsa Bonderson are among 107 student-athletes in sports other than football and men's and women's basketball who will receive NCAA postgraduate scholarships.

The $5,000 scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.000 cumulative grade-point average and perform with distinction in varsity competition.

Price, a candidate for the United States Olympic team (she will swim at the trials next month), placed second in the 100 freestyle at the NCAA championships with a time of 54.68. She also placed sixth in the 50 free with a time of 25.24. She was an Afro-American Studies major.

Bonderson, who injured his elbow midway through his senior season and missed the rest of the year, was a first-team Academic All-American as a junior and a third-team selection as a sophomore. He was a physics/applied science major.

This past May, Danny Farmer earned one of 16 NCAA postgraduate scholarships awarded to Division I football players.

Fifty-three UCLA student-athletes have earned an NCAA postgraduate scholarship or been selected as an alternate, including eight in the last three years (three in 1997-98, two in 1998-99 and three in 1999-2000).
