SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington men's tennis team lost its second straight match to a top-10 opponent, falling to the fourth-ranked UCLA Bruins, 5-2, at Bill Quillian Stadium Saturday afternoon. The 18th-ranked Huskies (13-8, 3-3 Pac-10) were edged by No. 3 USC on Friday, a loss which snapped a three-match winning streak.
The Bruins (16-5, 4-1 Pac-10) won the doubles point and four of six singles matches to earn the victory. Junior Alex Vlaski and freshman Daniel Chu were the only Huskies to end up in the win column versus UCLA. As a pair, the 43rd-ranked duo upset No. 8 Alberto Francis and Chris Kwinta at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
In singles action, it was Vlaski and Chu who picked up the two wins for Washington. Ninth-ranked Vlaski battled from a first-set loss to defeat No. 6 Tobias Clemens, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(8). Chu also pulled an upset, defeating No. 82 Chris Lam, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles.
UCLA?s Luben Pampoulov victory at No. 2 singles clinched the match for the Bruins, defeating No. 42 Alex Slovic in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.
UCLA rounds out the regular season in the Bay Area next week, traveling to Stanford on Friday and Cal on Saturday.
