For the second time in three years, UCLA will take part in the Cal State Fullerton-hosted Kia Baseball Bash, beginning this Friday at Goodwin Field. The Bruins will be accompanied by Oklahoma, Nevada and the host-Titans as the four teams competing in the round-robin style tournament. UCLA last participated in the Bash in 2003 when the Bruins defeated then-No. 6 Texas and No. 21 Tulane before falling to Fullerton in the tournament's title game.

After losing two of three to Pacific last weekend at home, UCLA has now dropped three of its last four games. The road ahead is not any easier as the Bruins will face Oklahoma's seven-game winning streak on Friday, Nevada on Saturday and defending national champions, No. 4 Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.

What's Bruin

Since 1975, UCLA is 4-2 against Oklahoma, 6-6 against Nevada and 22-41-2 against Cal State Fullerton... The Bruins last faced the Sooners at the 2004 NCAA Regional in Oklahoma City where UCLA defeated Oklahoma twice by scores of 9-1 and 17-7... UCLA last played Nevada in 1997 when UCLA took two of three from the Wolfpack at Jackie Robinson Stadium by scores of 11-3, 5-6 and 11-0... In 2004, UCLA swept both games from Cal State Fullerton -winning the first contest 5-4 at Goodwin Field and then defeating the Titans 8-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

B-Mac Attack:
Junior first baseman Brett McMillan has rebounded from his slow start. The 2002 Freshman All-American has now homered in three of his last five games. In that span, he is hitting .474 with 11 RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. McMillan currently boasts a nine-game hitting streak.

Hammerin' (and Dealin') Hector:
In his last two Friday starts, sophomore Hector Ambriz has tossed 17.1 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out 18. Those figures include his last start, a complete game shutout, four-hitter against Pacific in which he struck out a career high ten batters. Just as impressive, Ambriz serves as the Bruins' designated hitter when not pitching and currently leads the team and ranks sixth in the Pac-10 with a .435 average. He has posted two four-hit performances so far in 2005.
