UCLA recorded its first two Pac-10 victories of 2005 last weekend in Pauley Pavilion with decisive sweeps of both Oregon and Oregon State. Following a three-game homestand, the Bruins now return to the road for matches this week at No. 2 Washington and at Washington State. Thursday's match at Washington will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by FOX Sports West (see note below). Last weekend, UCLA benefitted from the return of junior outside hitter Colby Lyman, who averaged 3.67 digs per-game in UCLA's weekend sweep, in addition to nine aces in six games of play.

Washington (14-0, 5-0 Pac-10)
The second-ranked team in the country, the Huskies are a veteran team that returns all but one starter from a team that advanced to the 2004 NCAA National Semifinals. The Huskies are coached by Jim McLaughlin, who is in his fifth season at UW. UCLA holds a 38-9 all-time record against UW, but the Huskies won all three meetings last season, including a five-game win at Bank of America Arena in the NCAA Regional Final. Last weekend, WSU traveled to the Bay Area, losing a pair of three-game matches to Stanford and California. The Cougars are coached by second-year mentor Brian Heffernan. Banachowski Nears 1,000th Victory
Currently holding a career record of 993-260 (.792), UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski needs just seven more wins to become the first Collegiate Women's Volleyball head coach with 1,000 career wins. In his 39th season on the Bruin bench, Banachowski trails only UCLA men's coach Al Scates for wins by a collegiate volleyball coach. Banachowski was an All-America setter for Scates during his collegiate career at UCLA. (Scates holds a career record of 1109-200.) The first women's volleyball coach to be inducted into the National Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Mass., Banachowski has coached the Bruins to six national championships, including three NCAA titles.
