Berkeley, CA - The No. 1 UCLA women's water polo extended its winning streak to twelve games with a 6-1 victory over No. 5 California in an MPSF matchup at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkley. The Bruins are now 17-3 overall and 6-2 in the MPSF.
After UCLA fell behind 1-0 early in the first period, senior Jessica Lopez answered back 29 seconds later to tie the game at one all. A goal by freshman Lauren Heineck with 2:48 left would make it 2-1 Bruins at the end of one period of play. The second period would be a defensive battle with junior Natalie Golda scoring the only goal of the period to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead at half. In the third period, the Bruins came alive, with goals by Golda, freshman Kristina Kunkel and sophomore Kristyn Pulver giving UCLA the 6-1 lead going into the fourth. In the final period, neither team was able to find the back of the net, with Bruin goalie Jaime Hipp recording three of her six saves to give UCLA the 6-1 victory.
The Bruins finish their northern California road trip tomorrow with a 12:00 PM MPSF matchup at the University of Pacific.
