PRINCETON, N.J. - The UCLA men's tennis squad grabbed the top ranking in the first edition of the 1999-2000 ITA Poll, the ITA announced today. The top-ranked Bruins, who fell 4-3 to Georgia in the finals last season and ended with a No. 2 ranking, received 2,609 points and 27 of 46 first place votes.
In singles rankings, junior Chris Sands, who came in at No. 53, was the lone Bruin represented in the poll. However, preseason No. 3 Jean-Noel Grinda, No. 47 Zack Fleishman, No. 81 Brandon Kramer and No. 83 Jong-Min Lee, who all dropped out of the polls because they did not compete in fall collegiate tournaments, should be expected to make their return to the ITA Rankings in the next poll which comes out in February.
In regional rankings, Sands is ranked No. 12 and freshman Lassi Ketola earned a spot at No. 25. The doubles team of Ketola and Sands are ranked No. 15.
