UCLA Bruins Girls Basketball Camps Will Begin June 29

June 12, 2002

Bruin head coach Kathy Olivier and the UCLA women's basketball team will hold summer camps for girls on the UCLA campus. Applications are still being accepted for the three camps - Varsity Elite Camp (June 29-July 2) for grades 10-12, Overnight Camp (July 27-30) for ages 9-18 and Day Camp (July 8-11) for ages 6-14.

The UCLA Bruins Girls Basketball Camp is designed to provide campers of all ability levels a rewarding and enjoyable basketball experience. The camp staff features UCLA coaches as well as current and former UCLA players. Fundamental instruction, individual competition and team competition will be part of the camp's activities.

The Varsity Elite Camp is open to girls entering 10th-12th grade. Activities include individualized workouts with UCLA coaches and players in a highly-competitive setting, sessions on NCAA rules and academic requirements, and games and stations. This camp is designed for girls who want to be all-league, all-conference, All-CIF or All-American players. We want to take your game to the next level.

The Overnight Camp is designed for players who are becoming serious about basketball. Sessions offer an intense, specialized basketball instruction with an emphasis on fundamentals. This camp is open to girls ages 9-18.

The Day Camp focuses on teaching the fundamental skills and introducing basic game strategy. This is an outstanding camp for those just learning the game and for those already playing on teams. This camp is open to girls ages 6-14 and runs from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Each camper will receive a free t-shirt and basketball.

The camps are held at UCLA's legendary Pauley Pavilion, as well as at the Rieber Outdoor Courts and Sunset Recreation Center Courts.

"We're so excited for the start of camp season. It is one of my favorite times of year - we get to work with kids and watch our players interact with them," said Olivier. "It's all about the fundamentals. Helping the campers with their game helps our players' own games. I believe that being coaches makes them better players. The team has been working so hard this spring, and they are really looking forward to a productive summer."
