Two starters from the 17th-ranked UCLA men's soccer team have been sidelined with serious injuries suffered in last Friday's game at California. UCLA's leading scorer, sophomore forward Maxwell Griffin (5 goals, 1 assist), tore his left ACL and is out for the season. Sophomore midfielder Tony Beltran will have a right ankle arthroscopy on Friday, Sept. 29 and will be out 6-8 weeks.
The injuries are a blow to a UCLA squad that is already missing starting defender Brandon Owens (torn ACL suffered in the spring), probable starting defender Edwige Ligonde (stress fracture, left leg), and forward Robert Georgiefski (torn ACL and medial meniscus).
The Bruins will host fourth-ranked Washington on Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 pm after the UCLA women's game against San Diego at 6 pm. The games will take place at Frank W. Marshall Field at Drake Stadium.
