San Diego, Calif. - Danielle Henderson (Commack, NY) threw a complete game two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and no walks allowed as the USA blanked Canada 7-0 in the second day of softball competition at the 1999 Bank of America/U.S. Olympic Cup Saturday afternoon. The USA improved to 2-0 in the Olympic Cup, while Canada dropped to 0-2.
UCLA senior Christie Ambrosi (Overland Park, KS) had two hits and three RBI for the USA, while Leah O'Brien-Amico (Chino, CA) and Crystl Bustos (Canyon Country, CA) also each had two hits for USA. Michelle Venturella (South Holland, IL) added a double for Team USA.
Erin Woods and Meaggan Wilton posted the hits for Canada, with Woods' hit being a lead-off double in the second inning.
Team USA scored two runs in the third, four in the fourth and one the fifth, out-hitting Canada 9-2 and taking advantage of four Team Canada errors.
RBI-singles from Ambrosi and O?Brien-Amico opened the scoring for the USA in the third, and Ambrosi struck again with a two-run double in the fourth. Bustos also plated a run for the USA in the fourth when she hit a single to score Jennifer McFalls (Grand Prairie, TX), who opened the inning up a single of her own.
The final run of the game came via a bases loaded walk to Teri Klement (Ft. Collins, CO), which forced McFalls in from third.
