May 23, 2000

Los Angeles -- UCLA senior tennis players Amanda Basica (Lomita, CA) and Annica Cooper (Chicago, IL) were named Tuesday to the GTE Academic All-American District VIII first and second teams respectively. Both are now eligible for GTE Academic All-American national awards, which will be announced June 15.

Basica, a two-time All-American and three-year letterwinner for UCLA, owns a 3.70 GPA as a communications major. She recently qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships with teammate Sara Walker, however the duo was forced to withdraw after Walker suffered an injury.

Cooper, who has a chance to become only the fifth four-time All-American in UCLA history, owns a 3.65 GPA as a business/economics major. She is currently still alive in the NCAA Singles Championships and is scheduled to play her second round match this afternoon.
