Dec. 19, 2005
Sophomore guard Arron Afflalo (Compton, CA/Centennial HS) of the UCLA Men's Basketball Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week (Dec. 12-18).
Afflalo led UCLA to a 68-61 road win over previously undefeated Michigan, scoring 20 points, including 17 in the first half, with a career-high six three-pointers, two assists, one steal and no turnovers. Afflalo scored 14 of UCLA's first 16 points to turn an 8-0 deficit into a 16-0 advantage. After Michigan had closed to within four points late in the game, he made a big steal that led to a Bruin basket with 1:23 to play, helping to seal the Bruins' win. Afflalo has scored in double figures in every game this year and has scored 20 points or more four times.
This is Afflalo's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and second of his career.
Also nominated: Lisa Willis, W. Basketball.
