Los Angeles, CA - In the opening round of the MPSF Championships, hosted by USC, the No. 2 ranked Bruins, No. 3 seed, defeated No. 6 seed San Jose State 12-5. The Bruins advance to the MPSF Semifinals on Saturday, April 27. The Bruins will face No. 2 seed USC, ranked No. 3 nationally, tomorrow at 4:15 PM at the McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Bruins' overall record improved to 19-3 with today's victory.
Junior playmaker Jessica Lopez kicked things off for the Bruins, scoring the first goal of the game. Also scoring in the first quarter was sophomore Thalia Munro. Senior Kelly Heuchan netted three of her team and game leading four goals in the second quarter. Sophomore Natalie Golda also netted two of her three goals in the third quarter. Also scoring for the Bruins were freshman Kristyn Pulver and junior Mari Joyce. Junior goalkeeper Jaime Hipp had five saves for the Bruins.
Scoring for the Spartans were Jessica Levin, netting two in the final quarter, Inna Fedoseyeva, Christine Welsh and Stefanie Le Sueur.
The MPSF Championships will continue Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, at the McDonald's Swim Stadium. UCLA will face USC at 4:15 PM on Saturday. The Championship game will be Sunday, April 27, at 4:15 PM.
