Bruins Take First at Gaucho Invitational

The Bruins continue to show their experience by winning close matches. After Saturday's 6-5 victory over Hawaii, the Bruins faced No. 2 USC on Sunday in the championship game of the Gaucho Invitational, hosted by UC Santa Barbara. UCLA had another close match, which in this game went into overtime. This was UCLA's first overtime game of the year. The Bruins scored four goals in the overtime play, and won the game, 10-6.

UCLA took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, as they have done with most of the matches this year. The Trojans stuck with the Bruins and came back, scoring two goals in the second, third, and fourth quarters. The Bruins only managed to score one goal each in those periods. At the end of regulation, the score was 6-6. In the first three minute overtime, UCLA scored turned up the intensity, scoring three goals. In the second overtime, the Bruins scored once, eventually winning, 10-6.

Kristina Kunkel, Kelly Rulon, and Thalia Munro scored two goals each for the Bruins. Gabrielle Domanic, Natalie Golda, Jillian Kraus, and Brittany Rowe each added one. Goalkeeper Emily Feher had 13 saves. Munro was the leading scorer for the Bruins over the tournament, with eight goals total.
