Junior left-handed pitcher Wes Whisler (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville HS) was named the Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, Comissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Whisler threw a complete game shutout on Sunday as UCLA defeated Washington State, 14-0. He held the Cougars to only seven hits, none for extra-bases, over nine innings. He struck out three batters and walked only one. Whisler faced the minimum over the final four innings in his second win on the year. It marked the fifth complete game of his career and the second of 2004 for Whisler.
As UCLA went 3-1 on the week, Whisler was also stellar at the plate, hitting .500 over the Bruins' four games. He drove in a team-high seven runs over the week and hit his fifth home run of the season on Saturday.
The honor marks the first of Whisler's career. He was named Pac-10 Player of the Week during his freshman year.
