At Stanford Recap, February 28, 2003
In another classic battle between UCLA and Stanford, the Bruins were unable to get the win in Palo Alto, falling to the Cardinal 5-3 in a game that was not decided until the final minutes of the fourth quarter. After tying the score at 1-1 in the first quarter, the Bruins were forced to play catch up the rest of the game, falling behind 3-1 and 4-2 in the second quarter. Though the Bruin defense would shut down the Cardinal in the second half after allowing three goals in the second quarter it would not be enough, as the Bruins would only manage to score one goal in the second half. A Cardinal penalty shot with six seconds remaining sealed the 5-3 victory for the Cardinal. Junior Natalie Golda led the Bruins with two goals. Lauren Heineck's first collegiate goal accounted for the rest of UCLA's scoring. Goalkeeper Jaime Hipp recorded seven saves.
At San Jose State Recap, March 1, 2003
The Bruins ended their Northern California road trip on a positive note, defeating No. 8 San Jose State 10-3 at the Spartans home pool. The Bruin defense was outstanding in the first half, holding the Spartans scoreless, while the offense was able to build a 5-0 lead. In the third quarter the Bruins would allow their first goal of the game, but would still outscore the Spartans 2-1 to take the 7-1 going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter the Bruins would score three more times to finish the game with the 10-3 victory. Eight different Bruins found the back of the net, with Devon McIntyre and Robin Beauregard leading all Bruin scorers with two goals each. Natalie Golda, Kristyn Pulver, Kelly Rulon, Maureen Flanagan, Katherine Belden and Kristina Kunkel all scored once. Goalkeeper Jaime Hipp recorded ten saves.
