#2 UCLA Women's Water Polo Set For Three Game Homestand

This Week: The second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team (8-2 overall, 3-0 MPSF) has a three game homestand scheduled for this weekend. On Friday, March 9, the Bruins take on third-ranked USC (10-2, 3-1 MPSF) at 3 pm. On Saturday, No. 8 Hawaii (7-0, 0-0 MPSF) comes to Westwood to take on the Bruins at noon. UCLA's final game will be played on Sunday at noon against No. 5 Long Beach State (6-4, 0-2).

UCLA vs. Opponents: UCLA owns a 15-7 series advantage over the USC Women of Troy. The two teams last faced in the 2000 National Collegiate Finals, where the Bruins cruised to an 11-4 victory and a National Championship. USC closed out the season with a 25-9 overall record and placed second nationally. The Women of Troy are currently 10-2 on the season, with both their losses coming to #1 Stanford. This past weekend, USC fell to Stanford, 10-6, and defeated No. 6 San Jose State by a score of 10-6.

The No. 8 Hawaii Rainbow Wahine are currently 7-0 on the season. The Rainbow Wahine began the season by defeating four ranked teams to take the Princeton Tournament and have stayed undefeated since. They have yet to play an MPSF conference game this season. Hawaii is scheduled for three games on Friday, March 9, before they play the Bruins on Saturday. Hawaii finished with a 22-15 overall mark and placed ninth nationally last season. UCLA has never lost to Hawaii and currently owns an 11-0 series advantage over the Rainbow Wahine.

The Long Beach State 49ers own a 6-4 overall record and are 0-2 in the MPSF this season. The 49ers fell to No. 7 UCSB this past weekend, 8-4, and take on UCSD on Saturday, March 10, before heading up north to play the Bruins on Sunday. Long Beach State finished last season with an 18-22 overall record and finished 12th nationally. The Bruins have never lost to the 49ers, defeating them all six times they have met.

Coming Up: Following UCLA's weekend homestand, the Bruins will have two weeks off. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, March 30 at home against # 7 UC Santa Barbara. The game time is set for 3 pm.

Last Week: UCLA went up north to play MPSF conference games at # 4 California and # 16 Pacific. On Saturday, the Bruins came from behind to beat California, 7-5, and are now 3-0 against the Golden Bears on the year. On Sunday, Pacific was no match for the Bruins, as UCLA scored six goals in the first quarter, defeating the Tigers 16-4.

Bruin Notes: Junior Kelly Heuchan (Perth, Australia/All Saints College/Univ. Of Western Australia) continued her hot shooting, recording five goals this weekend, including a hat trick against California. Heuchan has now scored in six straight games and has 15 goals on the season.

UCLA has outscored its opponents 112-44 this season. In the Bruins' eight wins, their average margin of victory is nine points.
